Indonesia, Fiji Sign MoU to Strengthen Research and Academic Collaboration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) and Fiji National University (FNU) had just sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 8, 2024 at the FNU Campus in Nasinu, Fiji, according to the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

“Collaboration between UM and FNU will be a strategic momentum for strengthening academic collaboration in the fields of research, innovation, and technology development between Indonesia and Fiji,” stated the Indonesian Ambassador to Suva, H.E. Dupito D. Simamora, during the signing.

As reported from kemlu.go.id, the MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of FNU, Prof. Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, and the Rector of UM, Prof. Dr. Hariyono, in a signing ceremony attended by the Ambassador and representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Suva, key officials from Fiji, and representatives from both universities.

Ambassador Simamora further emphasized the readiness of the Indonesian Embassy in Suva to support the education and research cooperation between UM and FNU. Ambassador Simamora congratulated both institutions on successfully building partnerships and cooperation in higher education, and further expressed his fervent hope that this collaboration would open up greater opportunities for collaboration in other mutually beneficial academic and research fields between the two countries.

On this occasion, Professor Unaisi, representing FNU, reiterated the close partnership and cooperation between Indonesia and Fiji and further reaffirmed FNU’s desire to enhance concrete cooperation in education with Indonesia that supports development in Fiji.

The MoU between UM and FNU includes several areas of research cooperation and academic exchange, including, inter alia, development of collaborative research programs, exchange program between teaching staffs, organization of seminars, conferences, and other related activities.
